Bespeckled Typeface Design
I created ‘Bespeckled’ in my first Typography class. We were asked to use various found materials and to experiment with turning them into characters that would inspire a typeface.
The Process
I chose a roll of swarovski rhinestone chain that I had in my jewelry studio. I played with bending and overlapping the chain in various ways on a flat surface to make the characters. Once I had created a few that I found intriguing, I established a scale to use so that the forms would all be consistent.
The Inspiration
Bespeckled Typeface Mood Board
This is the mood board I created to establish the vibe of the typeface. I was inspired by neon signs and movie marquis, disco, night clubs and glamour. The characters look like lights or beads and almost sparkle on the page.

Pink Pony Club
I included Chappel Roan in my mood board and she has a song titled ‘Pink Pony Club’ that is about a fictional drag bar. I created a logo for this fictional club based on what I imagine it would be like.

Renegade Craft Fair
I did a redesign of a flyer for the Renegade Craft Fair. This is a craft fair that happens in cities all over the country. They have a colorful and playful aesthetic so I made a flyer that was in line with that.

Opals Jewelry & Gift
For this last expansion, I decided to lean into the developing theme of glitz and glamour and create a jewelry & gift shop called ‘Opals’. I used bespeckled for the logo and I replaced the nodes in the characters with actual rhinestones of different colors.
